Join Free Theatre's cast of The Mauricio
Kagel Project for an Ubu Night which explores the
countercultural world of The Beat Generation. The Free Theatre
company will inhabit words, music and performances of angelheaded
hipsters such as Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs, Cassidy, Kyger and
Vollmer.
As they weave their yarns and burn for the
ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo, a hip concoction
of Jazz and Moroccan cuisine will be on offer.
For this special Arts Festival Ubu Night, Free
Theatre will be joined by collaborators from The Mauricio Kagel
Project, including Gao Ping and Hamish McKeich.
Ubu Nights have become a popular feature of Free
Theatre's New Works Programme at The Gym, Christchurch's exciting
new contemporary performance space in The Arts Centre. Combining
theatre, music, film and hospitality, these unique events provide
interactive and sensory experiences. Free Theatre collaborates on
these Ubu Nights with Christchurch artists from diverse
disciplines.
